The Appalachian Mountain Club’s Maine Policy Manager, Bryan Wentzell, will present a slide show with Q&A on AMC’s Maine Woods Initiative on Thursday, June 21, 2007. The Maine Woods Initiative is AMC’s strategy for land conservation in the 100-Mile Wilderness region, addressing regional ecological and economic needs through outdoor recreation, resource protection, sustainable forestry and community partnerships.

Hot off the press is the 28th edition of the White Mountain Guide- the centennial edition! The handy book contains updated trail descriptions as well as tips on safety and trip planning. The guide also includes 6 color maps with an added feature of trail segment mileage. Cost to AMC members is only $22.46 (a 10% discount!) when you order through AMC’s on-line store

Later this summer, there will be a web companion to this guide that will give you the ability to interactively develop trip itineraries. This on-line capability will also allow the user to search for trails, natural features, and obtain additional trail information. What a great way to help plan a trip!

If you visit our calendar today you will notice a new feature. You can now filter the calendar by activity type and/or region. So if you want to just see a list of upcoming trips in Western Maine, just see a list of trail work trips, or perhaps just see the trail work trips in Western Maine you can do that as well. As the warmer weather builds in and the overall number of trips increases we hope this will help you find activities that interest you!
