Sign-up for AMC’s Fall Gathering
The weather outside right now may be sweltering, but the cool, crisp clear days of fall will be here before we know it. And what better place to enjoy the fall than the nearby White Mountains? AMC’s 2007 Fall Gathering will be held on Friday, Oct. 12 through Sunday Oct. 14 at AMC’s Highlands Center in Crawford Notch.

Governor Baldacci Climbs Katahdin
Maine’s Governor John Baldacci became the first sitting governor in about 40 years to climb Mount Katahdin on Wednesday, July 11, 2007. After overnighting at the Chimney Pond campground, Governor Baldacci and a party of 9 summited Mount Katahdin via the Saddle Trail and descended by the same route. According to Baxter State Park officials, the last sitting governor to climb Katahdin was Kenneth Curtis who summited in 1968.

AMC Trail Work in South Portland
In cooperation with the South Portland Land Trust, members of the Appalachian Mountain Club have been building trails in a most unlikely place: in the shadow of Maine’s largest shopping development.
