Have you ever wished you could take one of those distinguished white-background and green-lettered AMC trail signs home with you? You can! Every year the AMC’s White Mountain Trail Crew replaces weathered or out-of-date trail signs with new signs. These signs are considered collector’s items, having guided thousands of visitors for many years along celebrated paths throughout the Whites. And best of all, these retired signs are auctioned off with proceeds going to support trails in the Northeast!

This year’s auction will take place on eBay and will begin on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 and ends on Friday, December 5. All proceeds from the auction will support AMC’s trail efforts in the Northeast. Visit the AMC web page to learn more.

    2008 Signs For Sale

Airline Cutoff – This trail sign has deserved its retirement from the post on the northern side of Mt. Adams as it was struck by lightning and burnt to the alpine vegetation surrounding it.

Garfield Ridge/Galehead Hut – This well-aged and weathered, unpainted trail sign comes from the White Mountain’s high terrain of the Garfield Ridge Trail, which is also the Appalachian Trail in this section.

Mount Meader – Hailing from the quieter side of the White Mountains, this sign was recovered from the beautiful and secluded Evans Notch area of the White Mountain National Forest.

Hancock Loop – Exposed to the raging weather of the White Mountain region, this sign was perched on the north side of the 4,420 foot Mt. Hancock, on the southern boundary of the Pemigewasset Wilderness.

Wildcat Ridge – This sign was located at the beginning of the Wildcat Ridge Trail, adjacent to Glen Ellis Falls, shadowed by Mt. Washington and nestled in the nook of Pinkham Notch.

Wildcat River – This sign stood at the junction of the Wild River Trail and the Wildcat River Trail, near the Wild River Wilderness Area, which was federally designated in 2006.

Signs will be on display at the Pinkham Notch Visitor Center Trading Post for the duration of the auction.
