Biking in the Katahdin Iron Works Property

AMC is now offering camp-to-camp biking in its Katahdin Iron Works (KIW) property in the greater Greenville area. Modeled after the hut-to-hut hiking system in the White Mountains, bikers can pedal from one AMC facility to another via the network of old gravel logging roads. The 17-mile route from AMC’s Little Lyford Pond Camps to its Medawisa property allows cyclists great views through a remote area, and the opportunity to bunk in well-maintained cabins with modern amenities and dine on hearty fare at both ends of the journey. This would make a great foliage trip! Check out AMC’s website for more information.

Don’t Forget to Register for the Maine Chapter Annual Meeting!

The registration deadline is one month from today! Forms are available in the latest issue of our newsletter “Wilderness Matters” and on our website. Join fellow Maine AMCers and meet new faces for a weekend full of activities on the cusp of renowned Acadia National Park! Enjoy hikes, bikes, paddles, as well as a digital photography workshop and a coastal bird watch. And don’t miss the guest speakers after Saturday evening’s dinner who will tell their tale and project their pictures of their canoe trip across the country. Please visit our web page for more information. See you all there!

Discover Little Lyford Pond Camps!

Situated within Maine’s famed 100-mile wilderness, Little Lyford Pond Camps offer a unique, four-season retreat for outdoor enthusiasts to explore the spectacular mountains and wild surroundings of the Moosehead Lake region. To give AMC members and chapter trip leaders the chance to experience this amazing Destination first-hand, we’re running LLPC’s second Chapter Trip Leaders Familiarization Tour (also known as a “Fam Tour”) scheduled for September 20 — September 23, 2007.
