Sign-up for AMC’s Fall Gathering

The weather outside right now may be sweltering, but the cool, crisp clear days of fall will be here before we know it. And what better place to enjoy the fall than the nearby White Mountains? AMC’s 2007 Fall Gathering will be held on Friday, Oct. 12 through Sunday Oct. 14 at AMC’s Highlands Center in Crawford Notch.

2007 Maine Chapter Meeting

Registration is open for the 2007 Maine Chapter Annual Meeting! Camp Jordan in Ellsworth is the venue for this year’s meeting on September 28-30, allowing for a diverse mix of outdoor activities in nearby Acadia National Park. Maine Woods Initiative Potluck and Presentation

A reminder that June’s potluck will include a presentation by the Appalachian Mountain Club’s Maine Policy Manager, Bryan Wentzell, on AMC’s Maine Woods Initiative (MWI) for conservation and recreation. Conservation and Recreation Potluck; Maine Woods Initiative

The Appalachian Mountain Club’s Maine Policy Manager, Bryan Wentzell, will present a slide show with Q&A on AMC’s Maine Woods Initiative on Thursday, June 21, 2007. The Maine Woods Initiative is AMC’s strategy for land conservation in the 100-Mile Wilderness region, addressing regional ecological and economic needs through outdoor recreation, resource protection, sustainable forestry and community partnerships.

So if you want to just see a list of upcoming trips in Western Maine, just see a list of trail work trips, or perhaps just see the trail work trips in Western Maine you can do that as well. As the warmer weather builds in and the overall number of trips increases we hope this will help you find activities that interest you!

Introduction to Hiking Workshop

Interested in trying hiking? Want to learn what is required to travel safely and stay safe on the trail?

Planning a safe and successful hike and being prepared for whatever Mother Nature throws at you, will be the topic of an evening workshop sponsored by the Maine chapter of the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC), Tuesday, May 15. The workshop is free and AMC members and non-members are welcome to attend.

Potluck Presentation with Tom Rosenberg, Mahoosuc Guide Service

Come join us on Wednesday, April 18, 2007 for a potluck dinner and presentation. Tom Rosenberg has spent Winter 2007 as an apprentice with the Mahoosuc Guide Service in Newry. Still in his teens, Tom’s already an experienced outdoorsman and will share his experiences with dog sledding and outdoor education programs.
