First AT Thru-Hike Completed 66 Years Ago

What happened on August 5, 1948? Earl Shaffer completed the first documented thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail (AT) from Georgia to Maine! And just for fun he did it again in 1965 SoBo (South Bound), and again in 1998 NoBo (northbound) for the 50th anniversary of his first hike. He was the first of thousands who have now walked over 2,000 miles along the ridges and lowlands of the eastern seaboard.
