Interested in trying hiking? Want to learn what is required to travel safely and stay safe on the trail? Planning a safe and successful hike and being prepared for whatever Mother Nature throws at you, will be the topic of an evening workshop sponsored by the Maine Chapter of the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC), Monday, June 16. The workshop is free and AMC members and non-members are welcome to attend.Experienced Maine Chapter AMC leaders will discuss a variety of topics to help participants learn to plan a hike, know what to wear and what to carry in their packs. This workshop is designed primarily for those who are new or relatively new to the hiking experience. Safety will be emphasized. Everyone is welcome. The workshop will be held at the South Portland Library, 482 Broadway, and runs from 6 to 9 PM. To register and for more information, contact Joleen Rice, (207) 892-2685.

We will spot cars to enable us to circle up Bald Peak Trail, follow the ridge to the fire tower and down via the Ledges Trail. A total of 5.2 miles, 1,500 ft. elevation gain. Safety will be emphasized. Everyone is welcome! To register and for more information, contact Joleen Rice, (207) 892-2685 (Between 6:30 and 9:00 PM) or Jeanne Christie, (207) 310-8708.
