Kevin Slater and Polly Mahoney of the Mahoosuc Guide Service in Newry are profiled in the November issue of AMC Outdoors magazine. Kevin and Polly provide professional guide services including dog sledding and canoeing from their base facility on Route 26 near Grafton Notch State Park. For over 20 years, their human-powered trips have been a means to explore Maine wilderness with the help of a wilderness professional.

Kevin and Polly are strong supporters of the AMC’s mission and have made many contributions towards protecting Maine’s natural resources. The Mahoosuc Guide Service methods are sustainable and they serve to educate others through their professional services and public speaking. Polly gave an awesome presentation on dog sledding and living in the wild for the Executive Committee last Fall and her apprentice, Tom Rosenberg, was the feature speaker at the April 2006 Potluck Presentation on his wilderness education experiences.
