Annual Winter Hut Trip to Zealand Falls

January 13-14-15, 2001 - Martin Luther King Weekend. Enjoy a 6.5 mile X-Country ski, snowshoe or hike (depending on conditions) into the winter wonderland of Zealand Notch. Spend two nights in Zealand Hut on caretaker service. Sunday available for exploring the notch and area mountains. Meals prepared by the group. Great food by Chef Ginney! Individuals responsible for own lunches and snacks. Winter gear and experience with full backpack required. Space limited and this trips fills real fast. The afternoon will be devoted to ice axe techniques (know how to properly and safely arrest a fall). Attend either or both sessions. Sat. Jan. 27, 2001-LEADER POT LUCK SOCIAL - Party starts at 6:00 p.m. All current Outings Leaders and those interested in becoming leaders are encouraged to attend. Spend the evening in the company of fellow leaders sharing trail conditions and experiences encountered during your latest trips. We will also be joined by AMC Maine Conservation Project Director Gabrielle Kissinger for a discussion of hot conservation issues in Maine, and what the AMC is or can do about them. With 21% of our North Woods having changed hands in two years, and over 1 million acres in conservation projects either completed or under way, learn more about the opportunities, discuss the options, and offer ideas. Other topics will include forest practices reform, river issues, and funding for land protection efforts. This social event to be held in Scarborough. Sun. Jan 28. Downhill Skiing - Mt Abram, Locke Mills. It's Super Bowl Sunday, so the football fans will be at home in front of their TV instead of skiing, This means we will pretty much have the slopes to ourselves! Come enjoy a relaxing day of skiing away from the crowds. This will be a joint trip with the Singles Network. Mon-Sun Jan 29- Feb 4. Back country ski tours - Daily back country ski tours for the beginner and intermediate. Call L Jim Tierney before 1/26/00 to schedule for either the beginner or intermediate group. Some time will be given each day to a review of winter back country gear, safety considerations and an orientation to the terrain. There will be warming facilities and an outdoor hot lunch each day, (nominal fee for lunch ingredients). The terrain is varied and offers views of the Presidentials from the Saco River valley.

Family Winter Fest at AMC Cold River Camp Join us for a day of family oriented winter activities, using the AMC Cold River Camp near Evan's Notch as a base. Snowshoe and cross-country ski tours are planned for the morning. Winter games and activities are planned for the afternoon. Fri. - Sun. Feb. 23-25. Rangeley. A weekend of frolicking in the snow at the Saddleback Lake Lodge complex. We'll be near-by Saddleback Mountain for downhill skiing, and several groomed cross country trails. And there's lots of room to make our own cross-country and snowshoe trails. We have accommodations for l5 in cabins with central heating, hot water, several bedrooms, and fully equipped kitchens. Lodging for 2 nights is $45. Bring your own sleeping bag, towel, and beverages. White Ledge Loop Trail. Beginner Hike. This is a follow-up for those who attended the introduction to hiking but all are welcome. White Ledge is north of Mt. Chocorua (NH). Pleasant Mountain. Hike the Fire Warden Trail on skis/skins or snow shoes to the North ridge Trail at Bald Peak Summit. Sun Dec. 23 Workshop

Back country ski workshop for beginners. Give yourself a Christmas present. Some simple basics will give you access to the winter woods you never dreamed was possible.
