Canoe Committee Minutes: from 9/27/2001

01. Annual meeting:

a. Dave will read the canoe committee report.
b. Eleven members will be recognized for leading three or more trips.
c. Dave will lead the Saco River trip on 10/14.
d. The canoing event a Camp Winona will be cancelled.

02. Budget:

a. On 12/31.2001, Morril will send a check to the Maine AMC treasury, which will close out the canoe committee funds.
b. Dave will check on the fiscal year for the AMC so that we can have funds
allocated next year.

03. Trip reports:

a. Dave will follow-up with Suzanne to see if she will still do them?
b. The completed reports will be sent to Ed Bossom to do roster updates and
then sent to Dave.

04. Use of the Internet:

a. This will be one of the communication methods used by the committee to let members know what is happening.
b. Paddling schedules will be available.
c. Last minute changes will be posted.
d. Use a search engine like Google or Altavista, and search for "Maine AMC".

05. Paddling Roster:

a. First of all, we thanked Ed Bossom for all of his hard work in creating a current roster of paddlers.
b. People are added to the roster from the trip reports.
c. There will be two versions of the roster: one will have as much detail as
possible about a member and will be used for administrative purposes, by the core committee. The other roster will have basic information for other members to find paddling mates, etc.

06. E-mails and Communication:

a. Approximately 70% of the paddlers have access to e-mails.
b. We will also use this as a method of communication.
c. There will be a mailing to paddlers and you will have a chance to
indicate your desire to be on the roster and e-mail preference.
d. The core committee will do their best to be sure that members know what
is happening. If you have questions, please contact Dave Lanman or Bob

Sheckley.

 

07. 2002 Canoe chairs: Dave Lanman and Bob Sheckley have agreed to be the

co-chairs for the 2002-paddling season.

08. 2002 Paddling schedule:

a. Will be coordinated by Brent Elwell and Dave Lanman.

b. Target date for completion is 1/01/2002.

c. Let us know if you have a trip that like to take and/or lead.

09. Equipment: Bob will check on the boat, camera, and first aid kits.

Canoe Committee Report:  Maine Chapter AMC

Meeting date: 11/16/2000

01. Ron Chase was recognized for his excellent leadership as committee chair, for the last 3 years. He was given a gift certificate as a small token of our appreciation. 

02. Rolling sessions: Ken Gordon will be holding rolling sessions sometime in March. Please call him if you are interested in attending. He can be reached at 784-2745. No date has been set at this time.

03. Winter Picnic: The Annual Canoe Committee Winter Picnic will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2000. It will be held at the home of Bob and Cyndy Sheckley. It will start at 1PM. There will be winter activities for snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and possibly a short hike. Happy Hour will start at 5PM and a potluck dinner will be at 6PM. Call 883-5471 or e-mail Bob at Rsheckley@LNC.com. All are welcome and you can come for all or part of the picnic.

Directions: From Maine Turnpike Exit 6 (Scarborough exit, take a right on to Payne Road. Travel for about 3 miles to Beech Ridge Road. There will be a farm stand on your left. Take a right on to Beech Ridge Road and cross the turnpike. Take your next left on to West Beech Ridge Road. #28 is on the left, about .4 of a mile down the road.

04. Canoe Schedule for 2001: The committee is hard at work creating an exciting schedule for next year. Suzanne Cole and Brent Elwell are doing the Class 3+ schedule. Dave Lanmen and Carolyn Welch are doing the schedule for class 1 and 2. Our plan is to have the schedules published in the March/April issues of “Wilderness Matters”. Please contact one of the committee members if you are interested in leading a trip or have a favorite trip you would like to see scheduled.
