Great Maine Chapter outing with L Claudette Deschennes & CL Bob Baum. Spent Friday and Saturday nights at Wonalancet Cabin, ate great food, hiked and ate some more. Some cross country skied from the cabin.
On Saturday, climbed Whiteface via Blueberry Ledge Trail. Packed snow, some ice, on the trail. Needed crampons. Ice ax helpful in a couple of spots - generally an easy climb and back to start social hour by 3:00.
On Sunday, climbed Sandwich Dome after 6-10 inches of new snow. Broke trail the whole way with snowshoes--this was work as the new snow did not adhear to the ice underneath and slippage was the rule of the day. Total of five stream crossings but no one totally fell in. Trouble finding the trail near the top and time ran out. Wind became more intense on the decent. Very winterish hike. Thanks to Claudette and Bob for putting this together and doing a great job.
