My paddling partner and I started on the St. Lawrence River and made our way through Quebec and entered the U.S. at Escourt, ME. Making our way down the St. Francis River we came to the St. John River and sailed our canoes down to Ft. Kent. There we began our acsent up the Fish River by poling to Eagle Lake which we once again sailed across back to the Fish. From there we poled upstream to the town of Portage. We took a short break there and continued on down the Little Machis River to its confluence with the Aroostook River. We made an almost 70 mile push upstream to Oxbow Station. At this point we had planned to pole our way to Grand Lake Seboeis but the Lapomkeag River was dried up and the portage trail was totally grown in. We ended up hiring a Maine Guide to take us in to the lake. From there we descended the Seboies River to the East Branch of the Penobscot, overnighting in Medway. From there we made our way down the Penobscot to Hampden where we
ran out of time. Somewhere around 400 miles in 27 days.Home Page | Mission | Membership | Directory | Committee News | Trip Reports | Links |
