Rich Cromwell spent 61 days this past summer riding his mountain bike off-road down the Rockies from Banff, Canada, to Antelope Wells, New Mexico, on the Mexican border. Rich followed the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route crisscrossing the Continental Divide over 30 times during his 2830 mile adventure. This route is defined by the word ‘remote’. The entire trail is basically dirt road and mountain-pass riding. In total, it has over 200,000 feet (37.5 miles) of elevation gain. With the exception of the Great Divide Basin in Wyoming and the desert in the far south of New Mexico, he was gaining elevation or descending for the entire route. The diverse nature of the terrain makes for an incredible visual, sometimes overwhelming experience. The route offers something different every day – whether it be riding conditions, scenery, wildlife, points of interest or wonderful folks along the way. Rich lives in Brunswick, Maine and is currently Vice President of the Merrymeeting Wheelers biking club.

Scott Dyer- seeking one of two Co-Chair Maine Woods Initiative (MWI) Maine Chapter Committee positions
I am an active outdoor enthusiast and am interested in becoming more involved with AMC. I believe in the well being of Mother Nature and promoting its healthy benefits through education and respect for all it has to offer. The great outdoors has provided me with common respect and appreciation for waterways, wildlife, mountains, plants, and trees.
My background includes a life long adventure of hiking, backpacking, biking, kayaking, swimming, and snowshoeing. The formal training I’ve been blessed with includes Wilderness First Aid at the Solo School in NH; Winter Mountaineering with Marc Chauvin of Chauvin Guides at Joe Dodge Lodge; and most recently the Chapter Youth Program with AMC. I am also a member of the Velo Bike Club in the Mount Washington Valley.
Living in Stow, Maine my backyard is a living dream. My backyard consists of Evans Notch and the Mount Washington Valley. The purity and essence of the great outdoors fuels my everyday and I would like to share this energy. The AMC has been and will continue to be a great vehicle in which to drive this energy.
Peter Roderick- seeking one of two Co-Chair Maine Woods Initiative (MWI) Maine Chapter Committee positions
Carolyn Arcand- seeking Young Members Chair position
I’m originally from the Boston area, and have lived in Maine for the past seven years. I am currently a full time PhD student, commuting to Boston several times a week to attend classes and working towards my degree in Public Policy. I spend most of my free time outdoors and enjoy running, hiking, and skiing. I have been involved with the AMC Young Members group for the past two years, and am in the process of becoming a volunteer trip leader. I look forward to becoming more involved with the AMC!
