Annual Winter Hut Trip to Zealand Falls - Enjoy a 6.5 mile X-C ski, snowshoe or hike (depending on conditions) into the beauty of Zealand Notch. We can explore the areas around the Hut on Sat afternoon and Sunday. Spend two nights in Zealand Hut on caretaker service. Meals will be prepared by the group under instruction of long time Chef Ginny. You should bring your own lunches and snacks. If you desire, it has become the custom to "dress" for dinner. Sat-Sun Jan. 24-25. Family Winter Overnight
Brownfield, Maine. Designed to introduce families to the great outdoors in winter. An opportunity for children and their caretakers to share a winter experience unavailable to most. A heated cabin and cleared parking area near the tent sites allows for safe exit, should the need arise, from an otherwise wilderness setting. Review of gear, terrain and winter basics will precede setting up campsites, followed by 2-3 hour treks at a pace suited to the slowest member of the group. Most children should be eight years or older although exceptions are possible. Camp chores will be shared. Meals will be congregate except for Saturday lunch which each person should provide. Stoves, lantern, pots pans etc. will be provided. Each person/family will need specific gear and clothing, a list of which will be forwarded to participants in advance of the week end. Trip leaders and story tellers wanted. A workshop for Maine chapter leaders, co-leaders and 'want-to-be' leaders will be held at a Portland area site yet to
be determined from 6:30 - 9:00. Topics such as screening hike participants, activity planning & management and group dynamics will be discussed in a round table environment. The only requirement is that you bring a story about a group hike to share - the good, the bad and the ugly! Sat, May 1 Work Trip
Trail work trip to Appalachian Trail section that starts on Rt 27 north of Sugarloaf access road and ends at the junction of the AT and the Bigelow Range Trail. This section has been under the stewardship of the Maine Chapter of the AMC for many years. Due to the retirement of the long-time maintainers - Gene Fredericks and Vern Hustis - new maintainers are needed for this beautiful section of the AT. If you interested in this great opportunity to continue the tradition started by Dick Brown, here is your chance to be come involved. This trip will involve assessment of two sections of log and earth steps that are scheduled to be replaced soon and a work day involving the opening of the section for the upcoming hiking seasons. The Chapter has made a commitment to continue our stewardship of this key section of the Appalachian Trail in Maine. Member support would be greatly appreciated in this effort.

Sat-Sun, July 25 - 26 Trail Maintenance trip
AT north of Rt. 27 between Sugarloaf and Stratton. Rebuild log and earth steps. We will attempt to finish the project in one day if sufficient volunteers turn out for the trip. If not, a second work day may be necessary on this section of the Appalachian Trail that has been maintained by the Maine Chapter of AMC for many years. This project is located adjacent to the Stratton Brook Pond Road and involves no hiking. If there is interest, overnight camping could be arranged in the area. This promises to be a great trip with the added satisfaction of helping to continue the long tradition of caring for this section of the AT by the Maine Chapter. Come stay at the AMC's newest and oldest facility - most recently opened and oldest in existence - at Little Lyford Pond Camps, located in the Katahdin Iron Works/Jo Mary Multiple Use Forest region east of Greenville, Maine. We will work on existing trails doing a variety of trail jobs - something for all interests and abilities. Nearby attractions include the West Branch of the Pleasant River and Gulf Hagas, Indian Mountain with a new trail to the summit and the Lyford Ponds with fly fishing, paddling and moose and beaver watching opportunities. Hike the Bold Coast - Cutler. Hikers can traverse a 9.8-mile loop with spectacular views out over high cliffs and sea arches to the Bay of Fundy and Grand Manan Island. In summer and early fall, an occasional minke, humpback, northern right or finback whale can be seen surfacing offshore. The inland trail leads through thick spruce-fir forests, cedar swamps, and blueberry barrens, and over bogs and peatlands. Trip requires a two hour ride (one way) to the trailhead from Camp Jordan. Moderate to Strenuous hike - no significant elevation gain but footing can be challenging - typical coastal hiking. The chance to see a whale makes the trip worthwhile for many. Saturday October 2 Hike the Bubbles with your digital camera
8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Meet at Sand Beach parking lot, Acadia National Park. Want to get more out of your digital camera? The purpose of this day-long project is to tell the story of our hike in pictures. This will be a leisurely hike from Sand Beach up to the Bubbles and surrounding area with frequent pauses to take pictures with digital camera. Favorite 20 pictures from each participant will be combined into a digital slide presentation at day's end. At a minimum photography discussion will address composition, focus and light in the context of individual pictures as well as the overall "story" of the hike. Participants are encouraged to share their knowledge. Multi-media projector and labtop will be provided to download and show pictures on the big screen at day's end. Participants should know how to use their digital camera and carry extra batteries as well as a USB connection for downloading pictures to the computer. Let's bike a loop which takes in the opening ceremony and the initial crossing on the new Eastern Trail bridge section in Scarborough over the Dunstan River. Ceremony is at 2:00 p.m. Start at leader's home in Scarborough and bike to the new bridge, over the bridge and through the woods back to starting point. Approximate milage 20-25 miles. November 14, 2004, Sunday - Grand Opening of the The Eastern Trail in Scarborough, 2:00 p.m. (recheduled from Oct. 17)- You're invited to join the Eastern Trail Management District and the Eastern Trail Alliance to celebrate the grand opening of the first section of the Eastern Trail constructed by the ETMD and the ETA. The ceremony will be held at the new Dunstan River Bridge off Pine Point Road.

Thursday, Nov. 18. Dale Temm will be "leading" a trip to the St. Lawrence Theater on Munjoy Hill in Portland on Thursday, Nov 18th. This is a different type of AMC trip! Below is information on the play. The actors are soooooooo talented. It should be an enjoyable evening. Please respond prior to Sunday, November 14th for front center reserved seating.
