This year marks the 150th anniversary of the publication of Thoreau’s famous book “The Maine Woods.” In honor of this occasion, a group spent 16 days retracing his route over 300 miles from Moosehead Lake in Greenville, north of Mount Katahdin, then down the Penobscot River to Indian Island near Orono. Bugs, rain, waves, muddy portages, and wind were some of the obstacles they faced. AMC had a hand in the trip helping to shuttle supplies and people. Check out this article including some great pics for a taste of the expedition.
