Sun, Nov 1 - Mt. Caribou (2828’). We will hike the Caribou Trail at an easy pace. This mountain has excellent views. Then we will hike down the Mud Brook trail. L’s Sheila Pepper and Debby Kantor.

Wed, Nov 4 - Full Moon walk around Peaks Island. Meet at Casco Bay Ferry Terminal to buy tickets for 7:15 boat. Pre-walk optional dinner at Gilbert's Chowder House. L John Andrews.

Sat, Nov 7 - Streaked Mountain. L Mag Wine.

Sat, Nov 7 - Leaders Choice, Evans Notch Area. Easy paced hike of approximately 5 miles. L Nancy Houlihan.

Sun., Nov 8 - Mt. Eisenhower (4761') via Crawford Path. Views, views, views. Moderate pace. Conditioning for Winter. Full Winter gear. You'll like this (h)ike! Door prize. L Dick Boisvert anytime; CL Val Taylor.

Sun, Nov 15 - Bald Head Beach in Phippsburg, Maine. Bring lunch. L’s Bud Stratton and Sheila Pepper.

Sun, Nov 15 - Snow Mtn. (3960’ hundred highest) 10.8 miles round trip at an upper moderate pace. L Claudette Deschennes and CL Bob Baum.

Sun, Nov 29 - Mt. Moriah (4049) via Carter/Moriah Trail and Stony Brook Trail. 9.5 miles at a quick pace. Car spotting will be necessary. L Claudette Deschennes and CL Bob Baum.

December 1998:

Wed, Dec 2 - Full Moon walk around Eastern Promenade Trails and Back Cove ending at Great Lost Bear. Meet at Back Cove parking lot across from S&S at 6 PM. L John Andrews.

Sat, Dec 5 - Beginner/refresher winter hiking workshop. Ever wonder what "full winter gear" means? Experienced winter trip leaders Lewis Dow, Claudette Deschenes and Val Taylor will discuss clothing and gear requirements as well as what to expect on the trail during the colder months. Windham Public Library, 2 - 5pm

Sun, Dec 6 - Come walk St. Johns Beach. L’s Bud Stratton and Sheila Pepper.

Sun., Dec 6. Mt. Moriah (4049') via Stony Brook Tr. Find out why the Maine Chapter has scheduled this mountain so often lately. Winter conditioning hike. Gear check. Fitness check. Moderate pace with full Winter gear. L Dick Boisvert.

Sun, Dec 13 - Mast Landing. Just a walk in the park, or ski if there's snow and inclination. L Nancy Houlihan.

Sat, Dec 19 - Mt. Clinton (4310’) via Crawford Path. Six miles at a steady slow-moderate pace. We hope to spend some time above treeline. Proper winter gear required. L’s Jay Spenciner and Alice McKenna. Click here for a followup story.

Sun, Dec 27 - Hike Agamenticus near Ogunquit. An easy hike, eat at Maine diner and get together. L’s Bud Stratton and Sheila Pepper.

Sun, Dec 27 - Mt. Passaconaway (4060’) via Oliverian Brook, Passaconaway Cutoff, Square Ledge, and Walden trails (and possibly Whiteface (4010’) via Rollins Trail) 10+ miles at an upper moderate pace (depends on conditions). Must have full winter gear and winter hiking experience. L Claudette Deschennes and CL Bob Baum.

Sun, Dec 27 - Mt. Agamenticus. L’s Bud Stratton and Sheila Pepper.

Wed, Dec 30 - Walk the woodland Eastern Trail from Biddeford to Kennebunk and back. Up to 10 miles total. Elevation gain about 50 feet.  L John Andrews.
